On 22 October the COTER commission endorsed the new Alpine macroregion which will be the fourth macro-regional strategy, after the Baltic Sea, the Danube and the Adriatic and Ionian macro regions.

The macro-regional strategy  for the Alps could help to improve policy consistency and can lead to a more effective implementation of some common strategic targets in the region through multi-level governance arrangements.

COTER also set its position with respect to the 6th report on economic, social and territorial cohesion in the EU. In his paper the rapporteur strongly opposes the link between structural finds and macroeconomic governance rules as well as  reiterating the CoR call to remove national and regional co-financing of the Structural and Investment Funds from the Stability and Growth Pact equation.

Mr Szwabski, the EA coordinator and former rapporteur on the Code of Conduct on Partnership, welcomes the adoption of this opinion and calls upon the Commission to monitor how the Code of conduct on Partnership is implemented in each member State and asks whether LRAs are fully involved in the process as the EU legislation now requires.
