​Following the successful EA Group seminar in Gdynia, Mr Szwabski opinion on the regeneration of port cities and port areas has been approved by overwhelming majority at today's COTER commission meeting.
 
The opinion highlights the high potential of Port cities and port areas for local economic development and job creation. Challenges faced by port cities and port areas as a result of globalization have provided with opportunities for port cities and towns to diversify their activities in port areas and use land available to promote emerging advanced technologies, develop new and attractive waterfront and reuse port infrastructure and cultural heritage.
 
With the adoption of the Pact of Amsterdam and urban issues being increasingly prominent on European and national policy agendas, this own initiative opinion looks into innovative approaches for the regeneration of port cities.
COTER members also adopted the commission work programme for 2017 and discussed about priorities in the presence of the new director general  of DG REGIO, Mr Le Maitre.
 
Members also approved an opinion on missing transport links in cross border regions and exchanged views on the European Commission proposal to extend EFSI as well as on the proposal to revise general financial rules of the general budget.
