On 20 June Councillor of Kirklees Andrew Cooper took part in a "Innovative Solutions for the Public Sector for the Financing of Buildings' Energy Renovation" conference organised by ARENE Île-de-France in partnership with Énergies POSIT’IF and FEDARENE. The event was arranged in the framework of the European Union Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) and its aim was to present suitable and innovative financial instruments for the refurbishment of buildings, as well as to show the role of local and regional governments in the implementation of Energy Efficiency projects.

Cllr Cooper's intervention focused on "Kirklees Warm Zone", a project that boasts the largest local authority home insulation scheme in the UK and provides free loft and cavity wall insulation to every suitable household in Kirklees.

After pointing out the benefits of the free insulation scheme and showing the work done on financing and promoting the project, Cllr Cooper gave a short overview of his "Opinion on the Environment Implementation Review (EIR)", which is due to be discussed on July the 3rd at the next ENVE Commission meeting in Tallin, having already gone through the first round of debate last month.
