​On 13 June Commissioner Bulc addressed the CoR plenary session to debate on the future of EU transport policy, focussing in particular on low emission mobility.

During the debate the EA coordinator in the COTER commission and member of the Executive Council of Corsica, Marie Antoinette Maupertuis pointed out that transport is a key element to ensure the efficiency of the single market and to achieve economic social and territorial cohesion.

During her speech she highlighted the necessity for island and peripheral regions to be linked with main transport corridors in order to promote their economic development and convergence.

She also upheld the commitment of Corsica and other islands, through the smart island initiative,  to increasing their share of renewable energies and the use of clean for of transport though the transition to a low carbon economy is for islands more burdensome and expensive, as demographic fundamental result also in more limited fiscal resources.

At the margin of the debate Commissioner Bulc and CoR President formally launched the clean bus initiative, a platform where cities and regions could play a key role for the early deployment of buses and corresponding infrastructure.
