CoR Plenary Sessions take place five times a year and during these meetings Members sit according to their political affiliation to demonstrate the CoR's political nature. Prior to the Sessions, the EPP Group meets under the chairmanship of Michael Schneider for a meeting to prepare and align views.

The 96th Plenary Session of the Committee of the Regions will take place on 18 and 19 July in the European Parliament. In addition to the adoption of a number of opinions, this Plenary Session will also see the election of a new President of the Committee of the Regions. The EPP candidate, Ramon Luis Valcarcel Siso, is expected to take over the Presidency from 13 August 2012 for a mandate of 2 and a half years.
