During the CoR / DG Connect Broadband Platform held today Cllr Kieran McCarthy intervened during the debate on the key EU initiatives concerning digital transformation and connectivity where he welcomed the research produced by EPSON on digitalisation and highlighted the importance of the digital innovation hubs such as in Ireland. The small rural town of Skibbereen has become the trailblazer for rural digital hubs across Ireland. He highlighted that this summer marks five years of Skibbereen's digital economy and an ultra-fast internet connection as we look at the impact the Ludgate hub has had on the vibrant West Cork town. He also emphasized the Digital city challenge where his City Cork is involved and he called the European Commission for the next generation of this initiative.
