On the 30th May 2012 the bureau of CORLEAP held its first meeting in Brussels.  The Conference of Regional and Local Authorities of the Eastern Partnership (CORLEAP) was created in September 2011 to enhance contact between the CoR and Eastern Partnership Countries Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

After the presentation of the state of play in the development of local and regional authorities in the CORLEAP Partner countries EA CORLEAP bureau member Mr Jan BRONŚ said that democracy was clearly different in the EU Members States than that which is currently in the CORLEAP Countries, where democratic principles are not as advanced. There is a need to have a base electoral law established which would allow democratic elections to be conducted at local and regional level. This is an important factor where Poland and other Member States will be able to give valuable experience to the CORLEAP Countries in developing their democracies.
