On the proposal of Councillor Gary Robinson, Leader, Shetland Islands Council,  Members of the Committee of the Regions Commission for Territorial Cohesion Policy and EU budget (COTER) Commission today decided to organise a seminar   "Barriers to Economic Development and Wealth Creation in a Remote Island Community" in Lerwick on the Shetland Islands.  Cllr Robinson was delighted that the COTER commission agreed with his proposal and added "it is hugely important that politicians and EU policy makers understand the complex issues which arise in remote islands and that EU programmes need to take theses into consideration.  The meeting will most likely be planned for September 2016.
