At its meeting on 10 February, the CIVEX commission adopted the opinion on the enlargement strategy drafted by Arnoldas Abramavicius which highlights the progress achieved by candidate and pre candidate countries in their road towards EU accession while drawing attention to the role of LRAs in preparing these countries, their administration at different levels and citizens.
The members also discussed about the EU neighbourhood policy and the future action of CORLEAP and ARLEM, the bodies gathering LRAs representatives from the EU and the neighbourhood partner countries respectively from the Eastern Partnership and the Southern Mediterranean.
EA member and Mayor of Oleśnica Jan Bronś, when referring to the recent Summit of the Head of State and Governments which recognised the prominent role of LRAs in the Eastern Partnership policies and the need to support them also from a financial point of view, hopes the EU would identify a European perspective for these countries that are aiming to become EU members states.
