On 4 December 2015 Cllr Kieran McCarthy, Member of Cork City Council, participated as EA Group representative in the meeting of Steering Committee of the Europe 2020 Monitoring Platform. He welcomed the Work Program of the Monitoring Platform for 2016.

"I am enthusiastic about new code of conduct to work closely with LRAs in Europe. Building on the study outcome and the seminar in 2015 on a “Code of Conduct for an active involvement of LRAs in the European Semester”, the EU2020MP will through its events and meetings support the CoR in promoting this code of conduct and seeking its endorsement by European institutions." – he said.

He also welcomed the continuing effort to close the communication gap of EU institutions.

The Europe 2020 Monitoring Platform (EU2020MP) is a group of around 180 regions and cities which, on a voluntary basis, monitors the involvement of local and regional authorities in the implementation of the Europe 2020 strategy and in the European Semester. The results of its activity feed into both the work of the CoR and exchanges of good practices with a view to encouraging benchmarking and mutual learning.
