ENVE: EU legislation must take into account territorial impact of the transition and specificities of insular regions

On 14 February ENVE commission met in Brussels to discuss harmful pollution in urban water, air quality and debate on the priorities of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the results of the United Nations biodiversity conversion COP 15.

During the debate on the Swedish Presidency priorities, Ms Maupertuis, President of the Assembly of Corsica and EA Group Vice President, pointed out that EU legislation which is currently under negotiation, needs to take into account the territorial impact on regional contexts, as well as geographic specificities of territories such as islands. The transition will bring about a significant transformation that will affect skills and local job in an asymmetric way and it is important this impact is factored in EU policies and legislation.

Ms Maupertuis also presented, on behalf of the EA coordinator Andries Gryffroy, the working document on the opinion "Fostering the potential and synergies of EU Green Deal initiatives for regions and cities". A stakeholders consultation is scheduled on 7 March in Committee of the regions with the draft opinion to be voted at the next ENVE meeting in May.
