The CIVEX commission discussed on 16 June the European Neighbourhood Policy package, an annual reporting exercise including twelve country reports that take stock of the progress of the neighbourhood partners in implementing jointly agreed reform and objectives and that aim to addressing the main challenges facing both sides.

Some eastern or southerneuropean regions were concerned by negative developments such as political instability and difficult socio-economic conditions. While in several cases the EU was able to react rapidly, the CIVEX members concurred that the EU should develop proper policy and financial instruments in order to be able to respond more quickly in very diverse challenges and contexts in the neghbourhood countries.

Furthermore, the CIVEX coordinators decided at the meeting that the commission will address the need for more and better communication by producing an opinion on "Reconnecting Europe to its citizens".

The EA political coordinator Mr Szwabski, welcomed that decision as it considers as crucial at this moment in time, especially looking at the outcome of European elections, to revise the EU communication strategy to enhance dialogue with the citizens and to restore their trust and confidence in the European Union projects.
