Cllr Brian Meaney responding to the Indian Minister for Urban Policy Mr Nath, urged to find a solution to the huge levels of child poverty in India, especially given that 47% of children are undernourished and that paediatric malnutrition is responsible for over 22% of diseases in India.  He also gave a strong message that while it was understandable that the Indian population would aspire to western standards of living it was important that the developed world moderated in their consumption standards in particular on meat consumption.  Minister Nath agreed that there were serious sustainable development issues if the population was to adapt the meat consumption of the developed countries, giving the example of what the supply of meat would be if each of the 1.2 billion population would begin eating hamburgers.
