On 26 June 2019, the 135th Plenary session of the Committee of the Regions, hosted a debate on the localisation of United Nations SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) in the EU.
The importance of local and regional authorities is invaluable for reaching the European SDGs given that 65% of the 169 targets included in the 17 SDGs cannot be reached without the involvement of sub-national actors. Therefore, bottom-up approaches and multi-level governance are paramount to achieving the ambitious goals set by the United Nations' Agenda 2030. During the debate, speaking on behalf of the EA Group, Catalan Foreign and European Union Affairs Secretary, Dr Mireia Borrel Porta highlighted Catalonia's commitment to reaching the UN SDGs. She explained that in July, Catalonia will adopt a plan comprising 800 actions aimed at reaching the 17 UN SDGs.
