​On 25-27 September 2016 a conference on cooperation between science - business - public authorities was held in Heidelberg (Germany). Mr Tadeusz Truskolaski, a Member of the European Alliance Group, and its political coordinator for ECON Commission of the European Committee of the Regions actively participated in this event. As a professor at the University of Białystok and the President of this city he was able to assess the multidimensional cooperation between these three spheres. At a panel on the regional dimension of the Triple Helix, development of clusters and cities and geographical boundaries, President Truskolaski presented, among others, the way of implementing the concept of Triple Helix at the local level and also the process of the transformation of Bialystok City into a smart city.

 As a local government representative, a university lecturer and a member of the CoR Mr. Truskolaski is a clear example that such blend between these sectors works out well. He encouraged a multidimensional exchange of experiences and cooperation on many levels. This multifaceted approach, he explained, would consequently result in a strengthen synergy, increased competitiveness and would lead to faster development.

The conference, organized by the Triple Helix Association (THA: the president is Professor Henry Etzkowitz) every year met with great interest. In addition, the conference proved to be the right place where the scientists, public sector representatives and businessmen from around the world exchange their views, opinions and experiences. In 2016, amongst all active members of the conference, there were participants not only from the EU Member States, but also from Brazil, Peru, the USA, Russia, South Korea, China, Japan, India, Thailand, Kenya, the UAE, Australia and Switzerland. During a three day event, over 150 people presented their researches and experiences in terms of collaboration within the Triple Helix.
