During the 7th meeting of the CoR's Commission for Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture (SEDEC) held on 22 April, members discussed and adopted Mikel Irujo's opinion on the future EU Action Plan for Social Economy.

In the draft opinion, Mr Irujo, who has recently been appointed Minister of Economic and Business Development in the Government of Navarre, stressed the potential of the social economy to transform the European economy. He particularly called for the promotion of education in social entrepreneurship at all educational levels from primary to higher and pointed out that a good set of financial instruments is still missing and that in some member states there are some legal strains to be solved.

The opinion is due to be discussed at the CoR plenary session in July.
