The COR adopted on 3rd of May the opinion on the EU Enlargement Strategy of Stanisław Szwabski, EA coordinator in the CIVEX commission and Chairman of the municipality of Gdynia. In his opinion the rapporteur underlines the importance to include all levels of society also local and regional authorities at every stage of the reforms efforts and enlargement process.
I very much welcome the recent progress of the enlargement process as it significantly contributes to the development of local democracy and institutions, especially Croatia's imminent accession and the decision to grant Serbia the candidate status. The convergence path of the candidate and pre-candidate countries to the EU and their efforts to comply with the Copenhagen criteria represent the best response to common challenges such as corruption, respect of the rule of law as well as the sense of mistrust local people may feel towards the good intentions of the EU" emphasised Stanislaw Szwabski on the occasion of the vote.
