The COTER commission has adopted today by overwhelming majority the opinion on Clean Power for Transport drafted by the EA member Dr Saima Kalev. The opinion supports the proposal of the European Commission to set mandatory targets for recharging points for electric cars.

However, the COTER commissions ask more time be given to Member States and subnational governments to comply with the proposed directive as there are a number of matters which require adjustments. Moreover, the rapporteur has pointed out that due account needs to be taken of the differences between urban, rural and scarcely populated areas.

Besides the adoption of another opinion on assessing territorial impacts, the COTER commission has exchanged views on the 4th railway package as well as on an own initiative opinion about urban-rural partnerships. The next meeting of the COTER commission will take place in Dunkirk on 11-12 July upon invitation of the Mr Michel Delebarre.
