During the Opening Session of European Week of Regions and Cities 2017 Mr Stanisław Szwabski, Councillor of Gdynia City and 1st Vice-Chair of EA Group at the Committee of the Regions expressed his strong support for the Cohesion Alliance, through which the CoR Members want to ensure a strong cohesion policy after 2020 with an adequate budget, simplified and with the principle of partnership at the forefront. "I am glad that the EP has joined us in this effort and has adopted resolutions on this issue in the last week"-he said.

As rapporteur of the Committee of the Regions on the Code of Conduct for Partnership and Port City Revitalization he emphasized on cohesion policy and EU funds as solidarity and focus on reducing regional imbalances within the EU.

He gave an example of his municipality, a city characterized by great dynamics of development thanks to its economic potential, cohesion policy and the people who work there. "The revitalization of our city was crucial to overcoming the post-crisis stagnation and the exodus of marauding. Gdynia is a port city that offers great opportunities in terms of infrastructure, assets, ability to develop new sectors, as well as cultural and leisure activities. We have succeeded in identifying and strengthening synergies in port - city relations in Gdynia, partially weakened by the liberalization and globalization of markets. We worked in different dimensions and combined EU transport, maritime and water policies to address the development challenges of our city." He added by giving several examples of concrete projects.
