After the European Council meeting of 19 June, when the EU27 leaders granted another extension of the deadline for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), members of the European Committee of the Regions held an exchange of views on the implications of the Brexit process on local and regional authorities across the EU.

During the debate, East Renfrewshire councillor, Mr Tony Buchanan said that the latest extension, which will last until 31 October 2019 at the latest, should be used to reflect on the damage Brexit will inflict onto citizens and businesses both in the United Kingdom and the rest of the EU, adding that a sound result of that reflection process should be the revocation of the Article 50.
