On the invitation of Mr Banaszak the NAT Commision is organising the seminar in Inowroclaw, Poland on: " The development of a sustainable food supply chain as a factor in the integrated development of urban and rural areas". The main subjects which will be discussed are as follows: How to make the European food supply chain more sustainable for farmers, consumers and the environment? Which tools should be promoted to support the marketing of local produce on local markets? Price developments in recent years both at farm gate and consumer prices have clearly demonstrated the imbalances of power in the chain. This seriously threatens the sustainability of the sector, in particular in agriculture. The food supply chain encompasses important sectors that together make more than 7% of European employment. These sectors have a direct impact on all citizens, since food represents on average 16% of households' expenditures.
