​During the Committee of the Regions external Bureau held in Vilnius on the 03rd September the EA group President Dr Uno Silberg, in response to the intervention of Prime Minister of Lithuania, Algirdas Butkevičius called for a strong EU Cohesion policy while highlighting that 'we are united in a common purpose of promoting economic, social and territorial cohesion".
 
He also called for a strong energy policy which was also acknowledge by the Prime Minister as also a priority not only for the EU but in particular for the Baltic states moving away from their current Energy 'islands'.
 
Dr Silberg also said that urgent action was needed to address youth unemployment, which has reached alarming limits, increasing social tensions, creating high levels of poverty  which is nowbut is part of our daily lives. Local and regional governments are in the frontline of dealing with these issues, but need to be given the respurces as well to deal with the daily problems.
