On 29 April, a delegation of ENVE Members visited Swansea University, on the invitation of the EA Group political coordinator Cllr. Linda Gillham.

Swansea University is a highly regarded research-led university that has a long history of working closely with local government, business and community groups.

The participants also included the EA member Mrs Urve Erikson, former CoR rapporteur on the quality of water. They had an opportunity to see examples of innovative research funded by the EU structural funds. These initiatives included sustainable solutions and tangible projects for environment and resource management ranging from the production of energy from tidal power and renewables, the development of technologies for the production of algal biomass and bioenergy, to research on a sustainable marine environment.

The ENVE delegation also visited the innovative Llanelli Wetland Centre which is at the forefront of wetland conservation in Wales and is a flagship example of successful post-industrial regeneration, environmental tourism development and habitat restoration.
