On 7 October and in the context of the 2010 Open Days edition, Mrs Linda Gillham, Runnymede Borough Councillor and CoR rapporteur on the opinion "Future EU and international policy on biodiversity" chaired a workshop on tackling climate change and biodiversity loss.
Cllr Mrs Gillham, in the introductory remarks expressed satisfaction for the CoR taking part in the EU delegation as observer to the COP 10 of the Convention on Biological Diversity in Nagoya and reiterated that Local and regional authorities worldwide have a crucial role to play in areas such as land use and urban planning, environmental impact assessments of local projects and plans, protected areas management as well as green public procurement.

During the Workshop practical examples of ecosystem-based climate change action, including projects co-financed by the EU LIFE programme were presented.
