On the opening session of the 2010 Open Days edition on "Europe 2020: Competitiveness, co-operation and cohesion for all regions" Mr Jerzy Zająkała, Mayor of Łubianka and President of the European Alliance group in the Committee of the Regions said that currently it can be observed the preference for urban policy in the EUadding that in the context of the cohesion policy and Europe 2020 Strategy the European Union shouldn't have only urban approach but also should pursue an active rural development policy, seeking to achieve a number of important objectives beneficial for rural areas, such as higher living standards or the protection and development of rural regions. "We should therefore talk about a cohesive and sustainable policy ensuring that people living in these areas have a higher standard of living and the security they need for their families to develop. These areas are a major source of jobs" – he highlighted.
