Mr Roger Knox, Member of East Lothian Council, European Alliance coordinator in the EDUC Commission said during the Conference on Cooperation between local government, universities and local social and economic actors: The main characteristics in the relationship between the social economy and local development are qualitative employment, growth of social capital, reinforced democracy, and partnership between local authorities and social economy actors. He added that the continuing education is an important way of developing human resources and also constructing lifelong education system. Industry and enterprises are economic entities of national productivity and basis of capital construction. University is the continuing education training ground for these industry and enterprises. After, as a one of the main speakers in this conference he presented a case study in collaboration between Queen Margaret University and East Lothian Council, Scotland.
