On 8 February, addressing the Parliamentary Secretary of the Maltese Presidency, Mr Ian Borg, the EA group president and Gdynia city councillor, Stanislaw Szwabski called for a positive vision of the European Union as we celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Rome, 60 years ago.
"We have been shrouded in negativity, Member States and certain political parties have been too quick to blame the European Union, while negating the Ministers own responsibility" said Mr. Szwabski during his speech.

He continues, "We would like the Maltese Presidency to look at what is good in the European Union, the longest period of peace in our continent, the investment in jobs / growth, social and economic cohesion, the freedom of our young people to study and work across the European Union. We praise the deal you have reached to abolish roaming charges and we encourage you to continue the good work to the benefit of EU citizens."

During his speech Mr Szwabski also referred to the need for targeted support for port cities in their efforts to innovate and cope with competitive pressures and to the need for EU policies to ensure balanced development across all regions in the EU, including those who suffer from geographical and demographic handicaps.
