On 17 September a delegation of members of the EA group led by the President Mr Szwabski participated in the COTER commission seminar on challenges for crossborder regions in Liberec (CZ). The region has a unique location as it borders with Poland and Germany The seminar objective was to identify the obstacles hampering cooperation between cross border regions and assess the present EU instruments.

During the debate, Cllr Kieran McCarthy said that borders are framed in people minds but physical geography does not have borders. It is fundamental to look at the key role of local communities and of small scale projects to overcome obstacles. Moreover- he added - promoting cultural cooperation and going beyond infrastructure and economy, is crucial.

Gary Robinson, while presenting the case of the Shetland Islands, called for more accurate indicators to be put in place to make territorial cohesion really work.
