On 30 June the ENVE commission discussed and adopted opinions on the Paris Protocol – (climate change), the Energy Union Package and on developing the potential of Ocean Energy, the latter prepared by the EA member Rhodri Glyn Thomas. The CoR members were also discussing the future of the Covenant of Mayors and the revision of the  EU Birds and Habitats Directives.

The EA coordinator in the ENVE commission, Cllr. Andrew Cooper, called upon LRAs to show  greater ambition and go beyond targets that should be treated more as a floor rather than a ceiling. As for the Energy Union Package, Cllr Cooper emphasised that the CoR should strongly promote renewables in order to achieve stable markets and prices for consumers. He also welcomed the rapporteur's intention to make the issue of energy poverty a priority for LRAs. Lastly the EA coordinator added that a real cost for society is the cost of climate change and he encouraged members to better promote passive houses as energy efficiency buildings.
