On the 21st November the EDUC commission approved an opinion towards an integrated approach to cultural heritage for Europe. The strategy aims to highlight the fact that Europe has an opportunity to meet the challenges of the cultural sector with a strategic, global and integrated approach. The conservation and protection, as well as the strengthening of, social identity at local and regional level, are key factors for sustainability, which will ensure that community values are preserved for our future generations.

Mr Stewart Maxwell, the EA coordinator on EDUC, welcomed the opinion and took the opportunity to emphasise the European Commission's statement that the EU is not solely about the economy and growth, but also about cultural unity and common values in a globalized world.

He highlighted that "Rich culture and diverse historic environments are unique assets which contribute to wider social and economic benefits. An integrated approach towards cultural heritage for Europe is not just important for the Committee of the Regions but for people across Europe"
