The ECON commission meeting which was held in Brussels on 15 July 2015 included the participation of Mrs Viviane Reding, MEP. She discussed the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) with the CoR members. The Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) is a trade agreement which has been under negotiation since early 2013, currently between 24 members of the World Trade Organisation, including the EU. The aim of the negotiating parties is to liberalize trade in services, since services are an important sector in the global economy. The partnership currently being negotiated concerns local and regional authorities to the extent that TiSA covers all areas which the General Agreement on Trade in Service (GATS) already covers. Mr Tadeusz Truskolaski, EA coordinator said that public services should be excluded from the agreement on trade in services. The local and regional authorities must to be able to provide services of public interest at any time in accordance with their need. He added on the sharing economy "The sharing economy (SE) stands for a concept setting a new economic paradigm and therefore has important social, legal and institutional implications. It involves modes of consumption based on the accessibility of goods and services to consumers, rather than ownership, as well as on making use of idle assets".
