Dr Uno Silberg, President of the European Alliance group welcomes the priorities of the latest Baltic State to take over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union.  He praised the focus of a competitive Europe to promote growth and jobs, a digital Europe to seize the opportunities provided by information and communication technologies and an engaged Europe to define Europe's role in global issues.

Dr Silberg said:  the Baltic States in particular Latvia have undergone a huge economic change and progress over the last few years and have demonstrated what is possible with a clear strategy towards growth and jobs.  I believe that this clear focus will benefit the European Union and our group and the CoR look forward to helping the Latvian Presidency achieve its ambitious objectives.
