On 20 April Rhodri Glyn Thomas, Member of the Welsh Assembly and Rapporteur on the own initiative opinion on Ocean Energy met with Sean Kelly, MEP and Derek Vaughan, MEP to discuss about the huge potential of tidal lagoon, tidal stream and wave technologies in achieving climate change objectives and delivering sustainable growth and green jobs at local level.

During the meeting the key role of regions, which should coordinate their actions and strategies and eventually pool resources as well as long term targets that would also give clarity to the investors, were highlighted.

The EA Group member intends with his opinion to raise awareness on the economic and environmental benefits for regions and  local communities in coastal areas of exploiting and investing in ocean energy. Given the high capital costs required and the associated risks, the CoR will emphasise the key role of the EIB in leveraging funds and will seek further cooperation.
