At a hearing held in the European Committee of the Regions on the reform of the Common Agriculture policy (CAP), Leitrim County Councillor Enda Stenson called for clear and concrete measures to encourage more young farmers to stay on the land. The CAP is one of the success stories of the European Union and it needs to continue and encourage farmers to produce high quality, traceable food which is needed in our regions and cities. More so, it also needs to encourage more young people to work the land and live in our rural communities and therefore there need to be targeted measures to ensure this is the case.
